Most monitors sit on a standard height desk so it would be logical to assume that they all offer some form of eight adjustment to compensate for the variations in height of different users, however this is not normally the case and most units only offer a tilt adjustment. Holding the neck at an unnatural angle can lead to all sorts of spinal problems so it is essential that ergonomics is considered when making a monitor purchase, especially for home use where we often do not have the best environment for office work.

Acer Predator XB271HUAbmiprz 27 Inch WQHD Gaming Monitor, Black (TN Panel, G-Sync, 165 Hz (OC), 1ms, ZeroFrame, DP, HDMI, USB Hub, Height Adjustable Stand)
  • Everything's better with more pixels, A 2560 x 1440 WQHD resolution makes textures crisp and clear: As you know, it is a resolution sweet spot for high-speed gaming
  • Experience a whole new smooth, NVidia G-Sync eliminates screen tearing and minimizes stuttering for legendary PC gaming
  • Aspect ratio: 16:9. Minimize motion blur and zip through space with 144 Hz native refresh rate (165 Hz overclocked), now that is fast
  • Conquer your enemies with Predator game view, shooting aim-points and customizable gaming profiles give you the upper hand
  • Predator EyeProtect's flicker-less, Blue-light filter, comfy view and low-dimming technologies minimize eye-strain from long gaming sessions

The Acer Predator XB271 is predominantly a gaming monitor with red accents on the stand and a slightly aggressive look, however it performs excellently as a general-purpose device. The side bezels are extremely narrow with the buttons placed on the slightly wider bottom bezel. The rear of the unit has a black finish and has just 1 HDMI port, 1 DisplayPort, 1 audio port, and 4 USB 3.0 down ports. This model is a quad HD unit with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and uses LED technology. It has a refresh rate of 165Hz so motion should be ultra-smooth for gaming, viewing videos, or just scrolling through websites.

The stand is sturdy and provides stable support for the screen. The stand has red accents for a bit of flair as well as a small hole for cable management. You can adjust the height and tilt and can swivel the screen, with good ranges all around. You can also pivot it to portrait mode if you want a multi-monitor setup in that screen orientation, whether this is for gaming or for productivity. The unit can also be wall-mounted if required.

The XB271HU is at its best when used for gaming. It has a high native refresh rate of 144 Hz – which you can easily overclock to 165 Hz – and boasts excellent motion handling, with minimal motion blur during fast-paced games. It has a very low input lag, too, no matter what resolution. If you are using an Nvidia graphics card, you can also take advantage of the G-Sync support, which reduces screen tearing and stuttering when the frame rate is erratic. On the downside, this unit has a low contrast ratio so deep blacks suffer, as does the uniformity of black colours, especially when viewed in a dark environment.

Most users are impressed with the quality of this monitor, the range of features it offers, and the high resolution, however some have commented that there is an occasional glitch whereby the monitor displays random noise in one area of the screen for a few seconds before returning to normal, although this tends to happen during gaming only.

When it comes to the best monitors with full adjustability, Dell is one of the best in the business, with many of its displays offering good ergonomics – and the U2518D is no exception. A 24-inch display, the U2415 is one of the finest IPS monitors that you can get for £300 or less, boasting excellent colour accuracy, lots of connection ports, and wide viewing angles.

The U2415 is similar to other models in the Dell Ultra Sharp series, featuring a thin, minimalist frame with thin bezels on all sides. On the bottom bezel you will see the company logo in the centre, while the on-screen display buttons are on the right corner, under the bezel. The back panel has a two-tone finish, with the connection ports divided into two groups: The down-facing ports include a DisplayPort In, a DisplayPort Out, a Mini DisplayPort, an HDMI port, an audio out, and two USB 3.0 ports, while the quick-access dock on the side offers an additional pair of USB 3.0 ports.

The U2518D comes with a sturdy stand with a small hole for cable management. You can easily adjust the height and tilt and swivel the screen, with a 5.1-inch max height adjustment and a 45-degree swivel range in both directions. The tilt range is also good, with the screen capable of tilting backward up to 21 degrees. You can also rotate the screen to portrait mode, which is useful if you want a multi-monitor setup or to view full enlarged portrait documents. The on-screen display is well organised and clear, featuring a good selection of calibration options. Unfortunately, this unit does not have built in speakers, which may be an issue for those with limited desk space.

The Dell has excellent colour accuracy out of the box, with great overall coverage for the sRGB colour space, which makes it a good budget monitor for photo editing. Moreover, it has a high resolution (1920 x 1200 WUXGA), wide viewing angles of 178 degrees, and excellent brightness, however, it has a subpar contrast ratio and poor black uniformity. This unit has HDR support, however its average at best and has no wide colour gamut support. This unit is also a decent choice for casual gaming as it has a good response times and decent input lag.

All in all, the U2415 is an excellent monitor with good ergonomics. It works well for watching movies, graphics design, web development, internet surfing, casual gaming, and general office work, among other things. Users are mostly happy, although some have commented that the controls can be temperamental, and the connectivity ports are hard to access without turning the monitor upside down.

To reduce the need for an external power supply which can cause floor clutter and cable mess, the power module is built into the monitor with the result that this unit is slightly thicker than some. There are some innovative space saving design features, such the ability to mount either and Intel NUC computer or a mini-PC directly to the rear of the vertical part of the stand.

This monitor has 1 HDMI 1.4 port, 1 DVI, 1 D-Sub, 2 USB 2.0 ports and a headphone socket. This model also has built in stereo speakers and a PC audio input port. • ADVANCED ERGONOMICS: A fully adjustable ergonomic stand and blue light filter delivers the comfort you need for marathon gaming sessions.

Gamers have often had to compromise when choosing a monitor and often had to decide between a fast refresh rate with a poor image or an excellent image with slower response, however, this unit from ViewSonic seems to achieve both excellent image quality and fast response thanks to its 240HZ IPS panel and compatibility with the latest HDR10 specification. As if that is not enough, this monitor has a full range of ergonomic features including a stand that swivels up to 45 degrees left or right, a tilt range of -5 degrees to 20 degrees, and a 90-degree pivot. With 99% sRGB coverage, you can enjoy accurate colour while browsing the internet, gaming, streaming, or watching movies.

Perfect for multi-display gaming setups and content creation, the XG270’s 27-inch 3-sided borderless display maximises your viewing experience while minimising frame distractions. IPS colour technology and HDR10 bring your games to life, enabling deeper, more accurate in-game colour. Fully certified and tuned by Blur Busters, PureXP blur reduction utilises backlight strobing, drastically improving left to right motion image clarity for clear visuals in fast-moving objects.

Connectivity wise, this model has 2 HDMI 1.4 ports, 1 DisplayPort, 1 USB type B and 3 USB type A. At the bottom of the unit are two RGB strips that can be controlled independently of the strip on the back, and all the RGB strips can be synced up to one of three different controller programs. To the rear of the monitor is a RGB illuminated hexagon around the stand arm and two mouse bungees (for left and right-handed users), which, when set up correctly, make it easier to manage the mouse cable. On the back of the unit are a pair of 3-watt speakers that sound good. It’s almost routine at this point to observe that any gaming monitor with speakers would be better off not having them at all, due to tinny, treble-heavy output with almost no bass to back it up, but the extra watt of power that the XG270 has over most models seems to make quite a bit of difference, even though ultimately any serious multiplayer gamer will opt for a headset, both for an onboard mic and for the ability to hear where your enemies are before you see them onscreen.

with its Busters certification, this is the first and only monitor that can safely claim that it is ahead of the curve in the battle against motion blur. The XG270 is a thoughtful, expertly crafted gaming monitor with ergonomic considerations at the forefront of its design that sets out to do one thing well – help you game at your fastest with the crispest visuals possible at 240Hz. If that is what you are looking for, the monitor of your dreams has finally arrived. Users are overwhelmingly impressed with only minor quibbles, the main of which being the high price for a 1080P device.
