OnePlus NORD (5G) 8GB RAM 128GB UK SIM-Free Smartphone with Quad Camera, Dual SIM and 2 Years Warranty – Blue Marble

OnePlus is a company normally associated with premium phones so the Nord, being a mid-range device is somewhat of a departure for them. This model is available in a range of colours including Blue Marble, Onyx Grey and Ash grey and storage capacities of 128GB with 8GB RAM or 256GB with 12GB RAM. All variants have a quad camera array, glass back, and come sim-free with a 2-year warranty. The display almost completely covers the front of the unit with the exception of a notch where the front cameras are located. Today we will be going through the reasons to buy Oneplus Nord.

The processor is a middle of the road Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G which is more than capable of performing all everyday tasks with ease, however, if you plan on playing heavier games such as Real Racing 3 and Fortnite, you may have to look elsewhere. The design and appearance of this phone are typical for OnePlus and it looks a premium device. The display is a 6.44” OLED panel with 1080P capability and a 90Hz refresh rate. For connectivity, this unit has support for sub 6GHz 5G, which is impressive given the cost. Unusually for an Android device, the OnePlus Nord does not have a micro-SD card slot so you are limited to whatever is onboard, however the storage capacities available should be adequate for most needs.

OnePlus use their own proprietary overlay on the Android 10 operating system which they call OxygenOS. This is a lightweight skin that does not hog resources and adds some extra features that some may find useful, an example being the quick launch function and off-screen gesture control which can be used to lock the screen or activate the cameras or flashlight. This overlay is one of the fastest available and OnePlus devices consistently feel snappier and more responsive than those from other manufacturers of Android phones. The dedicated customization section gives you greater control than the basic Styles and wallpapers options on other devices running Android 10 and you can add or remove status bar icons, change battery indicators, and more, all without needing to delve into developer settings.

Among the highlights of this device are the cameras. On the back, there are four cameras: a 48-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide angle camera, a 2-megapixel macro camera, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. On the front there are two cameras: a main 32-megapixel camera, and an 8-megapixel ultrawide with a 105-degree field of view, the latter of which is exclusive for the Nord. The main cameras perform well with decent results in daylight and acceptable performance in low light conditions. Snaps from the main 48-megapixel f/1.8 OIS-enabled camera are pleasing on the eye and if the conditions are not too harsh you would not be surprised if they came from a pricier phone. Introduce some tougher elements and the HDR functionality struggles to cope, this is especially noticeable if you are shooting in bright and sunny conditions where the exposure levels are all off. Its hard to see what all the other cameras on the back are for other than to add a bit of depth and there seems to be a trend among manufacturers to add more and more cameras just to keep up with the competition. Videos can be shot in 4K at 30fps maximum.

Battery life is better than most and this unit is equipped with a 4115mAh battery with a 30W charger that the company calls Warp Charge. During tests, one hour of Netflix viewing consumed 10% charge, which is good. This device can easily run for a full day on a single charge and is quick to recharge and top-up. There are a couple of things buyers need to be aware of with regards audio – this model does not have a headphone socket, so you are restricted to using Bluetooth devices only.

Buy OnePlus Nord – it is a great combination of style, features, and affordability. It offers an almost-flagship experience thanks to its premium design, slick performance, and great cameras. There are a few drawbacks however, such as the lack of headphone socket and absence of a micro-SD card slot. Users are impressed with the look and feel of the device as well as its snappy performance, however some have commented that the gesture control is a bit hit and miss and the battery charge time is longer than they expected given the inclusion of a 30W charger although it does have a long life with some users commenting that even after a day of regular use, they still have over 50% charge left. Some have bemoaned the absence of wireless charging, but this is a feature usually only found on much more expensive phones. A couple of users have mentioned that their units have factory reset themselves. Other highlights mentioned include the excellent 90Hz screen which makes navigating round a website a joy as there is none of the flicker or blur seen with standard screens.

Why not buy Oneplus Nord today?!
